Oide Wiesn Loses its Century-Old Wall of Death and Calypso for Oktoberfest 2026

The historical Oktoberfest in the southern part of the Theresienwiese will unfortunately lose the wall of death at Oktoberfest 2026, with no replacement. Also, Calypso will not return for another year

The removal of the vintage attraction marks a notable change for the nostalgic, fenced-off southern section of the Theresienwiese. Long considered a beloved staple of the "Old Oktoberfest," the stunt show previously allowed spectators to watch daredevil riders circle the vertical walls of the wooden track on vintage motorcycles just inches away from the crowd.

The original Motodrom was built in 1928 by Munich showman Josef Ruprecht near Berlin and later became one of Germany's best-known traveling stunt shows. Although it has appeared at festivals across the country over the decades, its operators have not announced any tour dates for 2026, reinforcing its absence from Oktoberfest this September.

Calypso, a retro ride inspired by the rock 'n' roll era of the 1950s, is also missing from the 2026 festival lineup. Organizers have not disclosed why either attraction will not return.

The Oide Wiesn opened in 2011, a year after Munich marked 200 years of Oktoberfest with a one-off historical exhibit that proved popular enough to keep. Losing two of its longer-running vintage rides thins that lineup as the festival heads into its 191st year. While the Wall of Death is gone, the Oide Wiesn will continue to host its traditional brass band marquees, historic puppet theaters, and antique rides.
